This session dives into the fascinating world of native bees, where we’ll:
- Explore a native stingless honey bee hive (if you have a hive, great we can explore yours!).
- Learn about the solitary bees of our local area and build a habitat for solitary bees to leave at your school.
- Participate in a fun pollination activity while learning about the vital role these creatures play in our ecosystem.

In this hands-on session, we’ll:
- Learn about frog's native to our local area, including endangered species.
- Build a frog habitat together for your school.
- Explore and interact with a variety of frog habitat materials, discovering the importance of creating safe spaces for wildlife.

This Incursion is a hands-on learning experience where we'll:
- Build a possum drey for the ring-tail possum to be hang in the school.
- Learn about the possums of our local area and their habitat with a habitat display.
- Participate in a fun activity to discover possums' diet and how they too are important pollinators!
The Gardening Program
Plant an Australian Native Food Garden
No matter the size of your school garden space, whether it’s a garden bed, raised beds or a paved area with pots, EcoNest Education can assist with creating a sensory garden utilising Australian native plants. Under the guidance of our experienced educator, students will have the opportunity to be involved at every step to create their Australian native garden, learning about the unique characteristics and uses of each plant along the way.
We do custom plant signage too!

- Initial consultation to visit garden space and take measurements, assess soil quality and consider planting conditions

This program has the potential to run over multiple session.
10-week gardening program
Each week we explore a new gardening theme or concept, get to work, use new skills and improve your school!
Timeframe 30 minute engaging session where children learn about a new concept using displays and materials to engage and inform. 1 hour gardening session where we plant, prune, weed, fertilise and much more. There is always jobs to be done and seasonal changes to explore!
Package includes a selection of Australian native plants custom picked to suit your school grounds.
- Introduction to the new plants for the school - Let’s get planting!
- Australian Native Food Plants and Their Uses - a deep dive into the plants we are planting and why.
- Regeneration - Explore the lifecycle of many Australian native plants.
- Propagation and Seed Germination - We use a variety of cuttings like Pigface and Warrigal Greens and collect seeds from a variety of natives to germinate.
- Australian Native Bees - Bees are important in our garden so will learn all about their importance and build a solitary hive and.
- Composting and Worms - Children learn why the soil is so important and the best techniques to make it.
- Habitat Building - Create space in the garden for animals to be safe using a variety natural material.
- Plant Adaptations and Climate Change - Children explore why plants are changing with hands on activities.
- Bush Craft - We make paint, string, and paperbark bowls, all from plants.
- Bush Cordial and Damper - A morning tea using ingredients from the garden.

Custom signage for your Australian Native Garden.
Each sign has an explanation of the plants usage that is relatable and its flowering/fruiting time. The sign is printed on aluminium composite panel making them durable and long lasting for outdoor use. A galvanised steel stake is fastened to it to allow easy placement in any pot or garden bed.
